H5x7 Gets Rave Reviews

Slick Adaptation of Shakespeare’s Henry V Praised for Inventiveness and Execution

WASHINGTON—Barabbas Theatre Company’s H5x7 has won over every critic who has seen it in the 2016 Capital Fringe Festival. The Washington Post called the cast “a crackerjack troupe,” and said “Vince Eisenson’s Henry V is full of spirit and control.” The Post concluded, “At a time when Shakespeare is often just a jumping-off point for wacky Fringe expression, ‘H5x7’ really brings the Elizabethan goods.” Online theatre news outlets also had high praise for Kevin O’Connell’s adaptation of Shakespeare’s Henry V; DC Theatre Scene and DC Metro Theater Arts each gave H5x7 five stars and designated it as one of the best plays in the festival. MD Theatre Guide named it one of the top five shows of the week.

H5x7 takes its cue from the play’s Chorus, who urges the audience to use its imagination to aid the players in portraying the momentous events of King Harry’s campaign for the French crown during the Hundred Years’ War. In that spirit, seven actors–four men and three women–play 30 roles, aided by the simplest of sets, props, and costumes. The siege at Harfleur, the antics of the Eastcheap crew, the glorious and terrible Battle of Agincourt, and Harry’s wooing of France’s Princess Katharine are all brought to life through the skill of the ensemble cast and your willingness to “eke out our performance with your mind.”

H5x7 is adapted and directed by Barabbas Founding Artistic Director Kevin O’Connell and produced by Teri Gillmor. Rebecca Talisman is the stage manager, Julia Morrissey is the assistant director, and Elena Day is the movement consultant.

The cast includes Lizzi Albert, Kevin Dykstra, Vince Eisenson, Peter Holdway, Rachel Manteuffel, Elana Michelle, and Seth Rosenke. Read more about the cast.

H5x7 has two more performances at the Eastman Studio Theatre at Gallaudet University: Friday, July 22, at 9:45 pm, and Sunday, July 24, at 3:45 pm.
